Materials as place:Reflecting Wales 09:09
We believe that the process of design is inextricably linked to the creative act of making, and that craft is defined by the tradition and innovation of a region. In this design for the Relfecting Wales 09:09 exhibition we proposed the notion of ‘architect as builder’, with the aim to demonstrate the connections and processes between place and making through a didactic installation.
The structure exhibited our exploration of tectonics, as the combination of design poetics and making, in an architecture interpreting themes of place, tradition, material, craft and prototyping (innovation). Each design is simple, elemental and additive and explicitly linked in their design, form and erection process. The installation contained drawn studies of designs and spatial constructions, made prototypes at scales 1:100 to 1:5 and the act of building, captured at 1:1 through time-lapse video.
